And the Winner Is....
The 5th annual CEFE Student Business Plan Competition completed another successful year on Saturday, January 23. Students from nine academic institutions throughout Northern Alberta competed for over $30,000 in prize money in what is Alberta's largest student business plan competition. Aspiring entrepreneurs competed in one of three categories: Open Innovation, Technology and Family Enterprise. Students began with carefully crafting and submitting their business plans for the initial adjudication round. Eighty-four business plans from two hundred and fifteen students were sent to the judges who had the difficult task of selecting the top 18 plans for the final round. These students then had the opportunity to pitch their ideas to industry leaders and get first-hand feedback and advice from the experts. The competition was fierce. We salute Microbusiness grad Alicia Jentner who was Runner Up in the Family Enterprise Category, and the recipient of the $2000 prize! Her business is Anna Geleta Design and Manufacturing, an all Canadian fashion house dedicated to reviving classic designs. The company, owned by sole proprietor Alicia Jentner, is in its startup phase and is expected to launch its sales in February 2010. The garments are produced with emphasis on fit and flattery for today's professional woman. Anna Geleta's overall mission is to bring the best possible made in Canada product to market, without the use of sweatshops or lower quality fabrics. Quality, design, and comfort are without compromise.
